Whitby in Bloom 2008
Business and Commercial Involvement

Business & Commercial properties throughout the town have become increasingly aware of horticultural issues in recent years and play an active part in improving the town-scape.

Many SHOPS have taken advantage of the help provided by our sponsorship scheme. Sixteen inch hanging baskets ordered from our Parks and Countryside department are planted and watered regularly throughout the summer months saving valuable time for busy traders, for example The Co-op and Trenchers. By February 2007 over forty were on order. Small groups of shops also join together to enhance their area tending their own schemes for example The Lucky Duck in Sandygate. Barrels, Planters, Feature Beds and Roundabouts boast our sponsorship logos, from companies such as Astins, Quayside Restaurant and Country Cottages and demonstrate their commitment to care for the town.

Famous for its fishing community Whitbys fish RESTAURANTS such as Fuscos and The Magpie bedeck their premises with floral displays

On the INDUSTRIAL ESTATE Whitby Seafoods have enhanced the curtilage of their factory with a delightful seaside landscape of sustainable planting appropriate to the area. By setting up a gardening group on the estate they plan to share their ideas with other factories in the area.

Businesses such as Barclays BANK have pledged their time to litter pick and care for plants in specific areas such as the feature bed on Kyber Pass.
