Hoteliers, such as Allyson Scarth at Ruswarp Hall, provide hospitality and a venue for the Whitby in Bloom meetings, increasing accessibility to different communities interested in what we are doing throughout the year, visitors are always welcome.

Many owners of Bed and Breakfast accommodation now participate in our town garden competition and as standards rise competitiveness increases and whole streets are now a riot of colour in the summer.

At The Sandbeck Hotel proprietors Sue and Ken Dyson provide hot snacks and refreshments during ‘Whitby Regatta’ in August donating the income to supporting Whitby in Bloom projects. In 2006 torrential rain meant that many visitors to the town were happy to receive a warm welcome and enjoy delicious food.

Dick Brew of the Hoteliers and Caterers Association successfully encouraged Hotels and Guest Houses to offer prizes of a nights bed and breakfast accommodation to winners of the Launch Day, Balloon Race.

This gives an opportunity to enable people those haven’t yet fallen in love with Whitby to visit the town and boost tourism. It is this warm and friendly welcome which gained the town the coveted ‘Which’ magazine award for best seaside resort in England in 2006.

Great care was taken to ensure that out supplier of the ballons, provided biodegradable balloons and tags and that no ties were used so that the competition did not harm the environment.
