Whitby
has a rich infrastructure of very knowledgeable
people who link to our efforts, far too
numerous to mention here. Some which deserve
recognition are; |
|
| |
The
Civic Society |
| |
 |
The
Civic Society, committed to civic pride
over many years, have members of all ages
who work tirelessly both to research and
publish information on Whitby through the
ages and to direct new residents and visitors
to its hidden gems. Members of the group
have quietly gathered on many, many days
this year to target areas in need of care
and attention; gardening, litter picking,
conservation, repairs and new signage have
all been given their attention. Geoff Wilson
is our Whitby in Bloom member and representative
of this group. |

The
Naturalists Society |
| |
The
Naturalists Society produce an annual report,
compiled by members who all year round record
and detail the emergence of flora and fauna
and entomology studies across the town,
providing an amazing record of the world
in which we live. This is essential information
for local gardeners to learn from. They
have also donated money to support our efforts. |

The
ladies of the ‘Inner Wheel’ |
| |
 |
The
ladies of the ‘Inner Wheel’ led by Pat Perry,
herself an expert in rare plants, at ‘Perrys
Plants’- Briggsworth have adopted our Endeavour
bed at the foot of the 199 steps and taken
on the challenge of both growing and planting
this inhospitable site, battered as it is
by North winds form the Arctic! |

The
Literacy and Philosophical Society |
| |
The
Literacy and Philosophical Society (Lit and Phil.)
have provided essential records of the development
of Whitby over the last few hundred years. Their
archives show current planners the details needed
to create new vistas with due recognition of the
past. Their stewardship guards our past and ensures
a safe future. |
